This is the first session in a series of five revisiting (or learning for the first time is ok too) poetic form. We are inviting you to take one session or the whole series as you might be able. Individual sessions are $30 or all five are $130. Payments accepted through Venmo @Rebecca-Smolen or Apple Cash using 603.715.4778 or RSmolen@smolz.com.
In this class we will be concentrating on the sonnet. We will learn the constraints of it, the history within it, explore examples, (past and present) as well as have some time to begin our own. You will receive an emailed handout prior to each class with the material being discussed.
The week that follows this class we will have access to a google doc to share what we have written to give and welcome light critique with concentration towards adhering to the form first and foremost. In the google doc the words, rights, and work of an individual poet will remain their own and can not be used by another without their explicit permission.
This poetic form journey also includes knowing when to give up form or aspects of it to benefit the poem. Our goal is to learn the forms and play with the parameters.
New-to-poetry, old pros, and all in-between are welcome! There will be no bigotry or hate speech welcome into this community. This will be a safe place to explore form in any way the muse might want that to come to us.
For the benefit of all of us and the work, we will need to limit these sessions to 12 other humans.
